AWS D1.1 This code covers the welding requirements for any type of welded structure made from the commonly used carbon and low-alloy constructional steels.
ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Section IX contains rules relating to the qualification of welding and brazing procedures as required by other Code Sections for component manufacture. It also covers rules relating to the qualification and requalification of welders, brazers, and welding and brazing operators in order that they may perform welding or brazing as required by other Code Sections in the manufacture of components.
Section I (S) Power Boilers (over 15 p.s.i. steam, 160 p.s.i. water and temperature exceeding 250 F) shall be stampedASME (S) and National Boiler (N.B.) The "S" stamp by virtue of its description, also covers the "PP" area or power piping.
Section VIII Division 1 (U) Pressure Vessel Fabrication or weld modifications of unfired pressure vessels require the ASME "U" and National Board Stamp. (in accordance to the specifications for this and other vessels, pressures between 15 p.s.i. and 3000 p.s.i)
